What is Sew & Grow for Missions?
Sew & Grow for Missions is a sewing ministry comprised of faithful volunteers who make t-shirt dresses and shorts to be given to needy children locally, in other parts of the U. S., and abroad.

How did Sew & Grow for Missions begin?
In June 2011, while traveling together on a mission trip to Quito, Ecuador, Mary Ashley & Georgianna discovered they shared a vision for re-energizing the sewing talent within our church to clothe children in need. Both shared the love of sewing, and as mothers and grandmothers they wanted to see other children have the joy of wearing something new, sewn with love, and designed especially for them. While working with the Ecuadoran children, the need for clothing was apparent. Providing new dresses and shorts to needy children not only meets the immediate need for clothing, but also produces feelings of self-esteem and confidence in each child in knowing they are loved and that others care for them. The project was presented to the FUMC Missions Committee and the proposal was approved wholeheartedly.

How are garments made?
Skirts are sewn on purchased T-shirts which are decorated with buttons and ribbon at a cost of $4.00 or less per dress. Boy’s shorts construction cost is less than $2.00 a pair.

How many children have been served?
From 2011-2015 Sew & Grow for Missions has made an estimated 600 garments that have been distributed through local social service organizations and by FUMC Local and Foreign Mission Teams.
